How to compare two PDFs and see what changed

Open the newer PDF in Compare two PDFs and choose the older one: every difference is listed by page and drawn over both, added in green, removed in red and changed in amber. Neither PDF is changed, and without an account neither leaves your device.

A lease compared with its older version. In the newer one, the changed words are marked in amber: clause 4, Pets, now reads One cat may be kept at the property with written consent, where it read No pets may be kept at the property.
Two versions of a lease, every changed word marked.

Compare in four steps

  1. Open the newer version. Choose it in Compare two PDFs.
  2. Choose the older one. Under Compare with, pick Choose a file on this device…
  3. Go through the changes. In the Changes list, select one, and both documents go to it.
  4. Save a report. Choose Comparison report, and the list is saved as a PDF.

Good to know

  • Pages are matched first, so a page inserted or moved is one change, not every page after it.
  • On a phone, the list of changes is the screen: tap one to open its page.
  • A scan is compared as pictures, so run OCR PDF on both to compare their words.
  • Found a typo? Retype it in the same font. Everything starts at pdfeditor.page, and there are 45 single-purpose tools at pdfeditor.page/tools.

Questions
